The Life Shop is collaborating with a community of growers who will be responsible for planting and gardens located at the Cheney Mansion. Among this community of growers are our friends at WSSRA. This Thursday we headed over to the Cheney Mansion to meet up with WSSRA and Cheryl Munoz of the Sugar Beet Co-op. Cheryl was kind enough to take us on a tour of the grounds. She also discussed proper handling of garden tools. Then she taught us about seeds and helped us plan and plant our gardens. We are excited to be part of this great community of growers and thrilled that the food grown in the Cheney Mansion gardens will being donated to the Oak Park & River Forest Food Pantry. We even designated one garden as our “cucumber test garden”. This is the garden where we plan on developing our skills and learning how to grow cucumbers for our very own Knockout Pickles.
