Throughout the Winter 1 session of After Opps the Warrior-driven program known as Community Opps worked to plan a delicious home-cooked meal for our friends at the Ronald McDonald House near Loyola University Medical Center. The Warriors were in charge of planning the menu and cooking the meal which consisted of Jambalaya, Fruit Salad, and Chocolate Chip Cookies. In addition to cooking, we helped decorate and make cards for Valentine’s Day.
In addition to preparing the home-cooked meal, Warriors made strides towards developing OK’s presence in the community. We learned about the qualities of a good leader, discussed the meaning of “community”, and researched future organizations that we would like to volunteer with. “I want to help raise money for the ALS Walk”, said Eliza Grahnke. It is no surprise that the Warriors are working hard to give back to their community. “I like that we are going to help others. There are a lot of community places we want to help.” -Rebecca McIntyre
